The permissions changed in 8.0. It used to be see files, see folders, and
make changes. Now it's read only, read/write, and no access or something to
that effect. There's supposed to be a mapping from old to new but I've never
monkeyed with it. So you could have munged permissions. I'm not totally up on
the new setup. For several reasons, I'm still using 7.6.1 instead of 8.

Here's the trick I use to access shared disks trouble free without worrying
about permissions: you set the owner name in the file sharing control panel,
formerly known as sharing setup in OS 7. If you use the same name to log on
to file sharing as the owner name, you get full access to all disks, without
setting privileges etc. I'd try that and that'll tell you if it's a permission
thing.
