Hi guys,
I've been using my Apple IIe for years now to surf the web and
check my email via my school's Unix account. But since I graduated my
school account is going to get toasted. So I faced the prospect of only
being able to use my PC to check my email because:
1. I use AOL
2. I use Juno
3. My work email account has a Unix shell. But you need PPP/SLIP to get
into the network first and then you telnet into your Unix account. So
that counts my IIe out.
But then I had a great IDEA. How about picking up a USED IIGS?
Since Marinetti is out and looks like will support PPP/SLIP, with some
other applications, I could still surf the 'Net with a II! Not as good
with a PC, but whose complaining, right?
Anyway, with so many knowledgeable IIGS users here, I had a few
questions:
1. What's a decent price for a used IIGS? I live in San Francisco and
there are a few used computer places (there's one in Berkeley) so I can
look. I don't want to get "ripped" off.
2. What's a good minimum setup to get me started in terms of
memory, hardware and software? I don't know if I will use the IIGS for
anything else besides surfing the web/email......I really don't have that
much money to burn!
3. Any other comments/suggestions would be appreciated!
Oh, this account is going to get toasted Aug. 31st. So any
replies can be sent to donald41@juno.com or smcoach41@aol.com
Thanks!
Donald
