Alot older ones like the 500/550 had both serial and parallel
interfaces. DeskWriters nowadays have serial/ appletalk ports. You will
need a driver that will work with the printer. I suggest that you have a
look at the Independance drivers from Seven Hills software.
You can also check out the Harmonie drivers, which ShareWare Solutions
sells nowadays.
I still have to go after the NDA that allows you to print via Appletalk
on a IIgs. So when you buy a DeskJet/Writer with a serial interface, you
could also connect it via Appletalk.
