You are correct: you can not use the IIgs monitor on the IIc.  At
least directly.

Alltech Electronics sells an adaptor for US$39.00.  I have not used
it, so I can not vouch for its quality, but I have heard others say it
works quite well.

The RGB monitors are really high quality so I would keep it if you
really want a good color monitor for the IIc.
