Not wanting to start a heated debate on this issue (aka - a flamewar - which I
refuse to engage in now) - but, concerning the public availability of TGE from
apple.cabi.net, Joe Kohn wrote:
"John MacLean is being wronged by the fact that his
software has been uploaded to a warez site. Although I'm sure his royalty
checks from Roger Wagner Publishing are pretty small these days, they'll be
even smaller thanks to the loser who made The Graphics Exchange available on an
ftp site and then had the gall to brag about it here on csa2."
To which I reply: (1) Roger Wagner Publishing has been sold to a company named
Cendant - per information that related in a voice tel. conversation with them
today.
(2) TGE was uploaded to the site from England (U.K.) and
could have come from the program author himself for
all I know. I was informed by the RWP office staff in my telcon that TGE has
sold only about 3 or 4 copies during the past few years and very limited stock
remains of it
now, with no new stock of the title to be offered when the remaining stock of
TGE (they have on hand) is gone. They pointed out they have not received any
orders for it for a long time now.
(3) I'm expecting a call back from Roger Wagner some time soon concerning
information from him about the status and
future of all Apple II and IIgs titles offered from RWP.
I'll discuss the availability of the program from the ftp site with Roger
Wagner when he calls. If requests it's removal - it will be promptly removed.
(4) I'm trying to locate and contact John MacLean, the author and copyright
holder of TGE. If I do and he relates
he does not want it to be made available to the public in
the manner it currently is, I'll remove it promptly.
I don't agree that the site is a warez site. I don't agree that I'm a loser, I
don't consider that my original post was incorrect with the information
related and I don't consider that I was using any gall to brag about it either.
IMHO, Joe Kohn hasn't presented any valid facts to prove otherwise.
That's all I intend to relate on the issue until I have been contacted with a
conclusive decision from RWP and/or John MacLean.
Cheers,
Tom
