Yes. The RamFAST v3.01f SCSI interface works well with the standard
external SCSI Zip Drive. Sequential Systems (800-759-4549 or
303-666-4549; http://www.sequential.com ) sells RamFAST for ...
$109.95
$129.95 with 1Meg Cache
Alltech (760-724-2404; http://allelec.com ) also sells the RamFAST.
RAMFast SCSI Card "D" 256K 3.01F.....$139.00
You can install a hard disk for quite a bit less than a SCSI card +
Zip Drive. Alltech sells the Focus "Hard Card" drives. (I think they
still install System 6.0.1 on the Focus drives they sell, too.) The
Focus is a hard disk + IDE controller on a single board you just plug
into a Slot (usually, Slot 7). The Focus drive comes with driver, etc.
software.
60 Meg Internal FOCUS Hard Card.......$ 99.00
80 Meg Internal FOCUS Hard Card.......$119.00
120 Meg Internal FOCUS Hard Card.....$149.00
170 Meg Internal FOCUS Hard Card.....$169.00
200 Meg Internal FOCUS Hard Card.....$199.00
SHH Systeme, a German company (
http://users.ids.net/~kerwood/shh.html email: jlange@tasha.muc.de )
sells some high-performance IDE controllers to which you can attach a
hard drive module.
SHH Turbo-IDE (1992/1996 release) US $139 plus $18 S/H to US
MicroDrive Card (1995/1996 release) US $79 plus $14 S/H to US
2.5" HD drive module mounting Kit US $27 --
IDE 40-pin flat ribbon cable 3 ft. US $11 plus $4 S/H to US
MicroDrive/Turbo Card (1997 release) US $129 plus $14 S/H to US
2.5" HD drive module mounting Kit US $27 --
IDE 40-pin flat ribbon cable 3 ft. US $10 plus $5 S/H to US
SHH also offers "FileCard", a MicroDrive/Turbo board with hard
drive module attached (i.e. like the Focus "Hard Card"). Email SHH at
jlange@tasha.muc.de for current sizes and prices.
A Zip Drive is nice to have. However, an 80MB or larger Focus or
FileCard drive will work much better as your primary hard disk (i.e. the
one from which you boot System 6.0.1).
