Re: Good 'ole Ware

Well kind of both. Take for example Origin/Sierra simply repackaged the
Ultima series up unto #8. For #1 & #2 there where some program
modifications, Ultima 1 was no longer in Basic & You could finish U2. Both
were excellent games when they first came out but only die hard Ultima freaks
would have a remote intrest in them now. Hell I was in 7th grade when my
father bought me Ultima 1. I bougt all the other and I HAVE THE CLOTH MAPS
TO PROVE IT ;)

Now take Frogger 2000 or what ever that lame excuse for a game was that sega
just rereleased. The basicly took the old frogger gave it a 3d spin, added a
few more levels and that was it. Game play sucked and the 3d effect doesn't
work well when your looking down on your character. It had a little success
on the playstion but bomb in the PC market.

Ah MAME. Now Mame is something totally different (and I know I'm going to
see the Flames when I say this). The old arcade games had better graphics
and sound than most of the apple 2 games. I can't stand the fuzzy color
graphics that the apple spit out. I don't know how I could stand it way back
when, but booting up my old machine (just for shits and giggles) I was like
ICK.. I love the Apple emulator ApplePC v2.52 by David Ellsworth
(davidells@aol.com) He took the time to actually have 3 different MONITOR
emulations. Theres the fuzzy color, the CLASSIC GREEN SCREEN, and B&W. When
I find something hard to read in the fuzzy color mode I simply switch to one
of the others.

Now back to MAME... Most of those games are still in arcades everywhere. The
other day I was at my local mall buying something and just HAD to stop into
the arcade. There burried amongst all the figiting games was Galaxian! Wow
and I even got the 3rd higest score! Those games have permiated our society
so that most everyone knows what your talking about when you say Pac Man.

When the graphics started getting better on the Apple 2s the game play
started to suck. Take for example Airheart. What the hell is that game all
about.. Bah.. your a bird in a donut that bumbs into highway cones and
battles monsters that spit bubbles at you. Uh huh...

I will say this though... the older games did a better playability to them.
There was very little violence and there were a LOT of puzzle games. I think
that once the PC gaming community came of age the whole concept of adventure
games was lost. Everything is now dictated by your shareholders and the board
wants to see the next Quake killer.
