You keep saying "the drives". Do you really mean BOTH drive lights come
on at the same time when you try to start them up? In that case, there
certainly might be somnething wrong with the controller.
Try connecting only one drive to the controller. Do you notice a
difference between them one drive and the other?
And can you hear the drive retracting the drive head when you activate
it?
