   There is no HD at all. That's the builtin 5.25" drive giving up
trying to boot. [And that message is an improvement over previous
models that would try forever to boot]. You'll need to feed it a valid
Apple II (PC disks will *NOT* work) bootdisk for it to boot without
complaining.

   That's no more of a modem than 'COM[1234]' or the "modem" port on a
Macintrash. That's simply a serial port that you can attach to a
modem, printer, or any other serial device and talk to; the icon
supposed to represent a 'modem' is mostly only for those that want to
plug-and-drool.

   As to software, boot disks, etc, I invite you to read the official
csa2 FAQ at http://www.visi.com/~nathan/a2/faq/csa2.html . Section 7.2
covers how and where you can legally acquire a boot disk (tip: your
local pirate and sector editors are not it), and section 5 covers how
and where you can get legal software for your //c.
