The ROM code for producing the beep could be changing the system back
to fast mode to run the bell routine and returning it to what it was
before returning to the calling program.
I'm not sure if the about the Zip part, though as I still don't have
an accelerator for my machine. :(
Also, I don't know about the bell sound not coming from speakers
connected to a stereo output card because I don't have one of those
either. The circuit in the IIgs hardware ref doesn't give values for
a resistor and capacitor but I just discovered I have a complete
circuit diagram, including values, in "Inside the Apple IIgs" by Gary
Bond. However, if anyone else has any circuits for doing this, I'd
love to see them.
