The Tiger Learning Center may have been a good example if there had been
any real effort put forth to make it viable. It was test marketed in four 
cities, no real advertising was done, the displays I saw in Minneapolis
did not have monitors attached to demontrate their use. Advertising 
materials did say that they were compatible with apple IIe software
but without any option for using a disk drive there was not a practical 
way to use any of this software. It did ship with Appleworks 4.3 but
only the word processing part. No communication software was included
that could have made serial port tranfer easy enough for most people to 
use. 

It looked to me more like an example of someones great idea that got left
with no support.
