HD, ProDOS, & GS/OS

If I decide to get a hard disk and install GS/OS System 6.0.1 (I believe
that's the lastest (& last?) version) on it, can I still boot ProDOS
programs from the floppy drive?  If I boot up with nothing in the boot
drive, does it boot from the hard disk, and if I boot up with a ProDOS
application (like AppleWorks 5.1 for instance) in the boot drive, does it
boot AppleWorks, say, from the floppy?  Come to think of it, if I install
a hard drive, does the system recognize a floppy boot drive?  I ask this
question, because I understand that although one can choose ProDOS under
GS/OS, certain applications have problems running under the GS/OS
implementation of ProDOS.
