I think this thread belongs in comp.sys.emulators.apple2, but don't let
that bother us. It's definitely more Apple-related than most of the
threads here, which should be taken to comp.pirates.r.us...

So, what exactly does go wrong? The harddrive image is OK, I presume, so
that can't be the problem. Does Bernie give an error message? Does
Bernie try to mount another disk? If so, you should see if "Startup
disk" is set to the correct image.

What is "work"? The GS can't see the disk when you insert it? The GS
can't boot off it? The GS can't load some or all of the files on it? And
what are the symptoms? Nothing happens? You get an error? The GS crashes
into the Monitor (* prompt)?

That's odd. If this only happens on a real GS, I would suspect a
hardware problem. But then it wouldn't be able to boot with ANY disk. It
does boot from some disks, doesn't it?
But it happens with Bernie as well. You can read and write disks with
Bernie just fine, can you? I mean, a hardware problem with both your GS
and your Mac, which started at the same time, would be a bit too much of
a coincidence. So that can't be it. It must be something else...

Yes, like I said, ordinarily, you can just initialize a floppy disk (or,
a floppy disk image from the emulator) and put P8 on it (renaming it to
PRODOS), and BASIC.SYSTEM. That's all. Then you have a BASIC startup
disk. But I can't say which part of this procedure doesn't work out at
your end.
