Fonts are semi-intelligently cached, though things definitely are
better with Pointless 2.x's much saner caching mechanisms. [Pointless
is commercian and for sale from Joe Kohn's Shareware Solutions II, see
http://www.crl.com/~joko ] You'll probably run into problems on the
stock GS with more than about 800K of fonts used in an open file.

Only fonts built into the Laserwriter's ROM will look good under
any and all circumstances. Pointless can help a lot by rendering
TrueType fonts on demand, but due to a stupid lack of foresight from
Apple (along the lines of "640K should be enough for everyone), the
largest that Pointless can feed a Laserwriter is 63-point fonts. [The
laserwriter wants fonts 4x larger than the GS's screen, and Apple's
Font Manager tops out at 255-point fonts.] As long as people don't
want huge text, use Pointless.
