Re: getting backups (was Vulcan Drive)

Concerning Slicks problems with accessing:

ftp://apple:applesite@obsessed.ml.org/d%3A/apple/

I'm fairly sure it's just that middle-of-the-week traffic jam the Net seems to
suffer from these days.

I had no problems accessing it either. Of course I don't use PC's for Internet
activities (in fact - I don't use PC's - IBM, WINTEL etc. that is) nor do I use
any Apple II models for Internet activities. I use A Mac with either Fetch or
Netscape and I've never had a problem obtaining anything for the Apple II and
IIgs needs - as either a text file, ShrinkIt archive, zip, targz, dsk image,
etc. from any ftp, WWW or gopher.

Slick, maybe its time to start thinking about buying an old Mac II model or
even a Mac SE. They can be had for about
$75 or so - decked out with plenty of RAM, a good internal HD and monitor. You
can install Fetch and Netscape for FREE and using MacOS v7.1 thru 7.5 - that's
all you really need.

You can't set up a PC system and do this sort of thing for that price :) Can
you?

IMHO - If you really want to cruse the Net with ease and get all your NEEDS for
the Apple II and IIgs - it really seems like a simply and rather cheap
solution.

Cheers,
Tom
