A few years ago, we did a patch to the ROM-01 ROM by using a home
brew adaptor which allows access to both the original ROM and 4k patch
PROM. It was just to run some tests; but, the same approach would work
for other mods on a ROM-01 or ROM-03.

I do not know whether or not someone has tried the Sys 6.0.1
upgrade/mod to ROM-03 you suggest. It seems unlikely because you would
also need to modify the TS3 file in order to get your load-in speed
gain. My guess is that the load-in speed gain would turn out to be
pretty small. You might also have problems booting earlier versions of
System because they will not expect to be patching your new, modified
PROM code.

Nathan Mates has done a lot of work with trouble shooting System.
He may have some suggestions regarding your idea.
