RamFAST MIL Error

I've searched the FAQ's and couldn't find this one.
My RamFast works fine on a number of hard drives I have, but has a
problem with one particular drive.  It recognizes the drive and reports
the type and size and serial number and sectors and stuff.  However, if
I attempt to partition the drive, it pauses and after maybe a minute
returns:

Command 04 03 81 00 80 05 00 00 00 00
Status 2F

If I tell the RamFast to format the drive, it locks up (I've even waited
20 minutes).

I think I know what's happening, but would be interested in professional
advice.
