As far as I know, disabling the delays only affects 8-bit
software running in emulation mode (some games drop back down
to 2.6 MHz when the speaker is toggled). Just for the sake of
it however, I tried doing that, and it made no difference.

The game runs at 60 FPS even on a 2.6 MHz machine the way
it was programmed. Perhaps you changed the speed setting in
the game found in the player menus? It ranges from "Slowest"
to "Insane", did you play with that? If you have the computer
play itself, with both sides set to "Insane" for speed, it
would appear unplayable no doubt. :)
