In practice, however, a great many programs are not written to take
advantage of that integer speed-up. For obvious reasons of speed, no
program in its right mind will go through the toolbox for a mere
integer multiply or division.

It is entirely feasible to write programs to make use of the chip for
these operations, even when working in a high-level language. It just
means more work for the programmer.
