I don't have both a ROM 01 and a ROM 3 machine, so I can't check the
speed difference, but I do know this:
Virtually all toolboxes that come with GS/OS 6.01 have a newer version
number than the toolboxes that the ROM 3 machine has in ROM. This means
that any desktop application that uses the formal tool call entries to
start up the tools, load the tools from the system disk into RAM.
So a ROM 3 machine may be faster under system 5.0, but not so under
6.01.

And as far as I know, another difference between the ROM 01 and the ROM
3 GS, that has been neglected in this thread, is that the ROM 3 has a
different motherboard layout, which results in a "cleaner" sound output
signal, due to less noise from other components.
