Probably a dumb question, but I don't know much about Apple IIs...At the
school where I work we have a staff member who still uses a IIGS, and
wants to switch to a Mac. Are Macs supposed to read IIGS 3 1/2"
floppies? (Is this the PRODOS format?) Maybe he just gave me a bad
disk, but none of our Macs, old or new, wanted to do anything but format
the disk.
If the disks are not compatible, any ideas on how I could convert the
files anyway? I thought of getting an Apple IIGS modem (which I don't
have--anyone?) and connecting two computers that way.
Thanks for the advice.

Make sure that the disks are double density and not high density otherwise the
Mac will not recognize the 800k format. If you are using System 7xx on the Macs
just install the PC Exchange control panel that comes with System 7.5 and newer
system software. If installing on System 7.0 or 7.1 be sure to remove or
disable Apple File Exchange or there will be a conflict, other than that it PC
Exchange seems to work fine with all versions of System 7. There have been a
few reports of problems with System 8xx and PC Exchange with ProDOS disks.
If the disks are high density type then put a piece of tape over the hole that
is used to identify them as high density while you copy what you want off of
them.
