JoKo speaks
Joe Kohn said to Tom Larson (quoted without permission):
E<C| Of course I want FontPimp.
The initial idea was to pass you and other Apple newsletter writers a
full copy for review, so you would have gotten one regardless. :)
| a PC based TT font. Maybe you should include a sample font
True... something nice like Ariel would be cool. :)
E<C| But, didn't respond immediately, because to tell the truth, am a
| bit usnure whether there really is a commercial market for it.
My 2c, as told to Tom a couple times: There is a desire for it, but as
for market (people willing to pay), it's more narrow because our
platform is not mainstream and we're kind of used to downloading utils
free from FTP's in this wired age. For a lot of people, as you say:
| After all, Mac TT fonts can be read directly from Pointless, and
| there must be at least 4.25675 billion Mac TT fonts.
To which I counter that not everyone can get ahold of the font they
want in Mac format, or (my case) unStuff a font.SIT on their computer.
And if anyone has the Scott Adams/Dilbert handwriting font used in
Office Depot ads and other places, *please* binscii and sent my way!
E<C| That said...since I distribute Pointless and TypeWest...if you do
| decide to go commercial, I'd like to be involved.
Glad to hear it. :)
E<C| I just can't imagine too many people who'd pay even $10.
E<C| That's why I'm thinking that shareware might be the way to go.
I can't imagine too many people who'd pay $10 if they didn't HAVE to.
E<C| As far as my newsletter goes, I searched high and low to find a
| version of New Century School Book that works great for my needs.
ad: FontPimp does expand the possibilities, because there are often
other renditions and knock-offs of a given font out in Cyberspace that
could better suit a need (cleaner, bigger or smaller characters, more
glyphs in the set, whatever) which may not be ported to the Mac.
