When you talk about DOS 3.3 wares, your 'reference standard' is the
Apple II+. All Apple II's from the II+ on have Applesoft in ROM.
Most DOS 3.3 wares will run on a II+ with 48k RAM. Quite a few
games require 64k. A 64k Apple II+-- one with the full 48k motherboard
RAM along with 16k RAM on a Slot card called the "Language Card"-- runs
nearly all DOS 3.3 stuff.
Compatibility with old DOS 3.3 games falls off a bit with the IIe
and IIe Enhanced. This is mainly due to copy protection schemes which
check the ROM. Even so, a IIe or IIe Enhanced will run most DOS 3.3
games with no problem.
The IIgs, IIc, and IIc+ will run most DOS 3.3 wares; but, the
number which will not run correctly is higher than for the IIe series.
Overall, the IIgs has somewhat better old-wares compatibility than the
IIc or IIc+.
