The 65C architecture may have been eventually doomed, but the A2
could have branched off in the RISC direction.  The ARM powered A2
was a good example.  Something similar to the 68k Mac to PPC
transition could have been possible.

That Apple refused to support the ARM powered A2 is evidence of
the deliberate attempt to stunt the A2.  At the very least, the ROM 3
should have had an internal hard disk, more memory, and updated
video.  That the ROM 3 was nothing more than a memory upgrade
shows Apple's deliberate 'obsolescing" of it.  A better ROM 3, even
without a faster CPU, would have made a world of difference.........
because two years after the ROM 3, WDC in fact made only 8Mhz
to 14Mhz chips.  After that, a migration to RISC would have been
feasable.

If the Mac could do it to overcome the limitations of 68k, why could
the A2 not have done the same to overcome 65C?  If the GS was
powered by an ACORN/Advanced RISC Machine CPU from the
beginning, WDC would be moot...
