Question For Scott G

Scott G - While looking back over some recent csa2 posts, I was stunned -
and more than just pleasantly surprised - to read your post about using an
Epson Stylus printer with a IIGS via the Harmonie drivers.

I would rather err on the side of caution when it comes to the printers that
are supported by Harmonie. I feel that it would be irresponsible to say that
Harmonie works with such-and-such a printer, when in reality, I have no idea
whether Harmonie would work with such-and-such a printer.

For that reason, I promote Hewlett-Packard DeskJets for use on a IIGS, as I
know that Harmonie will work with all of them (except for the short-lived
'Windows 95 only' printers they put out), and that DeskJets are high
quality and low cost.

That said...it seems like all my PC-using friends are getting Epson Stylus
printers, and from what I have seen of them, they sure produce beautiful
output.

Because of that, I've talked to a friend, and at some point, we're going to
connect an Epson Stylus to my IIGS, just to see what happens. I don't know
when we'll get a chance to do that, so...

I was just looking at the Harmonie disk, and see that there are several
different Epson LQ models that are supported by Harmonie. I then went to
Epson's home page to see if I could learn anything about the LQ series, and
see that both the LQ series, and the Stylus series, all support Epson's
"ESC/P 2" langauage.

As I looked at that, my jaw hit the floor.

After all, with the HP printers that Harmonie supports, it's not so much
that Harmonie supports a particular model of DeskJet, as much as it supports
HP's PCL4 language.

Naturally, my thought was that if Harmonie supports any HP printer with
PCL4, then it's possible that IF Harmonie also supports Epson's ESC/P 2
langauge, then it's also possible that the Harmonie drivers would work with
any Epson that 'speaks' ESC/P 2.

I just called Harmonie author Burger Bill, and he had no idea if the current
Harmonie Epson drivers would work with the Stylus. Likewise, I, as the
publisher of Harmonie, have no idea whether the Harmonie drivers will
work with a Stylus.

So, any info (as detailed and technical as possible) you can provide about
using an Epson Stylus on a IIGS will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
