No - the same one that would work with an ImageWriter should be fine.
Two things to check:
- The LQ may have the LocalTalk option card installed. If so, LocalTalk
needs to be switched off when connecting it to the IIgs (unless you
actually set up the AppleTalk software in the IIgs as appropriate). I
expect there will be a DIP switch on the LQ motherboard to disable the
card, as there is in an ImageWriter II.
- Make sure the DIP switches in the LQ are set to match the IIgs Control
Panel settings, particularly the baud rate and data format.

Possibly, but not to the level that nothing would come out at all (you
might not get bold, pitch changes, etc.)
