I would suggest this method as well if you are going to do a local
modem to local modem transfer.

Personally, though, I find it much better to go spend $5 or less and
pick up a null modem adapter (or cable for one of the machines) and
connect the serial ports together.  This has the added benefit of not
having to play around with the phone lines, which could unhook your
phone just as an important call was coming in, and also frees you from
the speed limitations of your modems.  You can transfer at the maximum
serial port rate that your computers can handle.  Not to mention that
you don't need to type ATD on one computer and ATA on the other.  If
you use Zmodem to transfer files, you just need to be at one computer
and tell it what files you want to send.

This is just my opinion, though.  At present I have three serial ports
on my 486.  One for my mouse, one for my modem and one connect to my
IIgs through a null modem.
