Apple IIGS Copy Problem

Hi,
I purchased a copy of Dungeon Master for the apple IIGS, only to find that
There are some bad sectors on the disk.  The program runs flawlessly, except
when you  try to load a saved game.  I have the original disk.  I was wondering
if this sounds like some kind of disk copy protection thing or what?  I was
wondering if there was any way to legally get a copy of this anymore.  I have 
a friend that has another legal copy of this disk, but I don't want to damage
his copy by trying to copy it only to have some weird copy protection scheme
render his disk useless too.  
I have a program Copy IIplus 9.0, that has a special setting for dungeonmaster,
and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was safe to use to copy.
