CD Rom drive problem
Is a special driver needed for a Toshiba External 2X CD Rom drive on a IIGS?
Hardware: IIGS Rom3. sys 6.0.1, 4Meg Q-Ram, ZipGS 8/64, Apple Hi-speed SCSI,
Quantum LPS105 external (ID6), Zip100 (ID5).
Software: sys6.0.1 SCSI drivers (SCSIHD, SCSICD, etc.). Diskquest (Family
doctor CD) Diskquest Encyclopedia (comptons ed). System 6.0 golden master
for the Finder.
If I connect my Apple CD-150 drive, all is well. If I connect the Toshiba
drive, the Finder doesn't see any drive, and DiskQuest(s) reports no disk
is found. So I think it is strictly a hardware problem or an incorrect
driver.
I recently bought this cd drive for my IIGS from Alltech Elec. and they
asked all the appropriate questions for hardware/software I had. So, I
expected the drive to work :-( I've asked for help from Alltech but I'm not
getting any (yet). In the meantime, while hell freezes over in Oceanside
CA, does anyone have any experience with this type of drive. (I ordered a NEC
drive but received a Toshiba drive.)
I haven't opened up the drive yet, in case I need to return with a RMA, but
the electo/mechanically it seems to work. Power light is on, disk
inject/eject OK, amber I/O light blinks when inserting a disk and booting
IIGS system. The Apple Media control NDA reports no drive was found.
Do I have bad hardware, or bad software? Note, the CD-150 works fine with
this system.
