Well, hopefully you aren't making those StuffIt archives available to
the public via FTP sites, web pages or other means.  You may not think
that what you make available would be of interest to anyone using
something other than a Mac but that usually isn't the case.

Why do you think I have programs on my IIgs to support .zip, .gz,
lha, .lzh, .arj, etc.?  Because I want to be able to access data from
IBMs, Amigas, Ataris and other machines.

There is a lot of stuff available for the Mac on the net that I would
like to use but I'm unable to because most of it is packed with a
version of StuffIt that is newer than GSHK supports or has the files
inside a directory in the archive.

By the way, if StuffIt supports other packing formats, why do all the
Mac users continue to use the proprietary StuffIt format instead of
one of the non-proprietary formats that is available on other systems
to allow sharing the data with more computer systems?

Well, I can think of a couple:  1) To get better compression rates and
2) To make it easier for people other than Apple II users to use the
files.

Mind you, it isn't impossible for other systems to unpack ShrinkIt
archives, it just adds an extra step some people may not want to deal
with.

ShrinkIt would probably do a good enough job and I don't know if a Mac
to IBM Wolfenstein 3D level convertor exists so those levels may not
be of any use to IBM users which would make using ShrinkIt a better
solution in this case.
