Help:Converting Appleworks files to PC compatible files?

I could be pissing into the wind here, but what are my chances of
converting some IIe Appleworks files (database) into PC compatible
files?

I can recall, before I mothballed the IIe, I saved the files as text
files and then tried opening them on a PC with no luck.With access to
sharper  minds than mine out there on the Net , are there any
suggestions?
