This is exactly what you want to do.  Use Appleworks to save the
databases to disk as text files and make sure it is set to have tabs
between fields and carriage returns between records.

Transfer those tab-delimited text files to you PC and tell the
software on your PC to open/load/import/whatever a tab-delimited text
file.  Some PC programs will use the term delimited file and give you
a choice of characters to use as the delimiter.  Just make sure you
use tab as the delimiter.
