DeskWriter 310 Printer on a IIGS

I recently upgraded to a new printer on my Mac and I have been trying to get the 
DeskWriter 310 printer that was on the Mac to work on my IIGS.  The DeskWriter uses the 
same cable as the ImageWriter II.  

Now the problem:

When trying to print from an application like AW4 or ProTerm, the paper feeds into the 
DeskWriter, but then nothing else happens at the printer.  The computer then returns to 
the program leaving the blank page waiting in the printer.  Issuing a PR#1 from the 
Applesoft prompt produces the same result.  Trying to print from AWGS using the Harmonie 
HP driver also doesn't work.

I've tried changing the control panel settings in various ways and rebooting, but nothing 
seems to help.

Anyone had any luck getting this combination to work?
