Marinetti question(s)
Greetings:
I'm still trying to overcome the problems I've been having with Zmodeming
files between my unix box at work and my machine at home. (The best
theory is that the pseudo-telnet connection established by the firewall
machine is only an 8-bit connection, allowing for VT100 emulation and
Zmodeming of text files, but not binaries. Tech support is looking into
this for me...)
Anyway, until they get this working for me, I thought I'd give Marinetti
a try. I downloaded it and installed it on my machine, but I'm having
trouble getting it working.
First of all, it isn't clear from the docs where, other than Genie/Delphi
one can go for bug info/support. (There doesn't seem to be anything
on the WWW page.) I'm hoping I can get some help thru csa2.
Anyway, I'm having trouble getting my connect script to work. Part
of this is definitely my fault, but part of it seems like it might be
a bug in Marinetti. Specifically, sometimes when I change the script
and try to re-connect, I see no evidence on my modem that anything is
happening. (ie, it doesn't seem to try to dial, etc.)
Feature suggestion: Display the execution of the script, line-
by-line, so one can see where it bombs.
Anyway, the likely root of the problem lies in the nature of the firewall
machine. Once you dial in (and hit enter a couple of times) it prompts
you for your username and passcode. The passcode is based on your PIN
(static) and a multi-digit code provided by a thing about the size of
a credit card. This number changes every minute, making it impossible
to incorporate it into the script. After you enter this successfully,
you have to type "uli", then "slip" to start a slip connection. I get
the impression that Marinetti will never let me connect to a machine
like this.
Feature suggestion: Allow the user to enter script commands in
real-time, or at least prompt for certain
values, like passcodes.
Final note: Sometimes after trying to use Marinetti, I can no longer
type Command-Q to bring up the shutdown dialog in the Finder; I have
to access it through the menu. Has anyone else seen this happen?
This happens to me about 80% of the time.
Final question: How can I pass along these bug reports and feature
suggestions to the Marinetti developer(s)?
Cheers,
