I felt truly stupid.  Not a good feeling -- you can bet nobody would make
this mistake twice!

I'll do as you suggested and keep the parts around.  Do you know if there
is any harm in plugging the removable IC's in a working GS board to see
if they still work?  Thank you for your help!
