OK! OK!
Figured it out.
File structure.

The PC couldn't figure out the file structure on the transfer disk.

I tried it again with each file in the root directory and they 
transferred just fine.  (Some crazy file renaming as each system applied 
its own rules to each file.).

They open just fine in WordPad and I'm sure I'll be able to import them 
into Excel like I wanted.
