I almost want to say that it sounds like your are getting the stuff in
a resource fork and not data fork and the Windows side sees a zero K
file.
Explicitly save as text if you have not done that already, if you have
BBEdit for that interim Mac, or Textwrangler, either should be
findable someplace for Classic OS, and go out of your way to make sure
you save it as a PC text file. Then move it.
