I agree, the cost of the conference is quite high in general (the
meals and lodging facilities sound pretty basic, almost like sleep-
away camp quality), but unusually high if you decide to stay off-campus
and just attend the conference itself. Much more so if you register by
late spring or summer, after the pre-registeration special ends. Still,
you'd miss a lot of what makes KFest special staying at a hotel.

I've been wanting to go for years actually, but the high cost has
definitely been the only factor that's kept me from attending. Having
to fly down from Canada, not to mention other traveling expenses, adds
greatly to the cost (although maybe not as much as those of you who've
flown in from England or even Australia :).

It is also hard to justify the cost when it is mostly a fancy get-
together and less of a traditional "conference" as it was back in the
late 80's and early 90's. Still, I don't doubt how much fun it would
be, especially meeting other people who still use, care and know all
about Apple II's--the last time I experienced that was at a usergroup
meeting about 11 years ago! (I really sometimes feel like I'm the only
person left who plays with these machines, every person I know offline
in the real world just knows/talks PC's or Mac's :). The thought of
walking into KFest is like something out of the Twilight Zone to me. ;-)
