You mean HD SC setup, the formatter for 7.5 and earlier. It does need patched
if you want to use non Apple supplied drives. You can find the patch on your
favorite info-mac mirror. Apple did finally do away with the dorkishness
of only supporting the drives they supply when the new formatter called Drive
Setup came out. It recognizes every drive I've tried with it. It's moot in
this instance since Drive Setup needs an '040. The thing to use is a patched
copy of HD SC setup.

I'd recommend using Apple's if possible so I'd say reformat anything without
Apple's driver on it.
