   Check the slot assignments (either GUI control panel or text
control panel by pressing control-open apple-escape) and make sure the
slot 5 is set to smartport (or your card if you have a superdrive
controller in there). Also check out */System/Drivers/Appledisk3.5 (*
is GS terminology for bootdisk) from the finder and do a get info on
it to be sure it's not disabled. [Check also the unidisk3.5 driver if
you've got one of those]
