Waitaminute.......
Without arguing that GNO is or isn't a Linux lookalike (quite frankly, I
don't care...)...please tell me that I am not seeing a rejection of the
longstanding tradition of hand-coding Assembler for the Apple ][ series!
Personally, I think the hand-written code is what sets the ][ apart.
Sure, compiled high-level code is a lot easier to write, and it is a lot
more portable, it also tends to be bigger and slower thanks to the
included libraries...
Apple ][ machine code is some of the best machine code in the business, in
my opinion, mostly because it was all written by hand instead of by some
C++ compiler...
Just a quick knee-jerk reaction.. 8-)
Speaking of knee-jerk reactions...someone here has shown himself to have
an inherent hate of Apple Computer, Inc. I can't speak for the whole
group but I can say that we've all been hurt by Apple's actions. But you
can spare us the ravings about how rotten Apple is...some of us are
getting very tired of hearing about it. Like it or not, Apple is still in
business, still building a better machine (from the user's viewpoint) than
the competition, and (major plus) they are not nearly so arrogant as a
certain software manufacturer (ever read a 'Win'95 License Agreement' from
a hardware bundle?). Apple is still around; Apple is producing a line of
non-Apple ][ computers, which though they are not Apple ][s and are not
Apple ][ compatible, are a lot easier to exchange data with than any other
machines out there (I don't have enough serial ports to set up a
null-modem and leave it in place...). SO GET OVER IT.
