Well, as Dave Althoff explained, there is an "escape mode" in Applesoft,
which means that there are certain shortcuts available by pressing
Escape and another key.
Escape-Escape: Clear screen, move cursor to top-left position
Escape-a: Move cursor one position to the right
Escape-b: Move cursor one position to the left
Escape-c: Move cursor one position down
Escape-d: Move cursor one position up
Escape-e: Clear line from cursor position to end of line
Escape-f: Clear screen from cursor position to end of screen
Escape-i: Move cursor one position up; stay in escape mode
(you don't have to type Escape for the next command; if
this was the last command, type any key not listed here
to leave escape mode)
Escape-j: Move cursor one position to the left; stay in escape mode
(see Escape-i)
Escape-k: Move cursor one position to the right; stay in escape
mode (see Escape-i)
Escape-m: Move cursor one position down; stay in escape mode
(see Escape-i)
Escape-4: Switch to 40-column-mode
Escape-8: Switch to 40-column-mode

As Nathan Mates explained: Write your code in a word processor, save it
as text file, quit to DOS/ProDOS, EXEC this textfile, and SAVE your
resulting Basic program.
EXEC means "execute batch file"; the concent of such a batch file (which
must be of type TEXT) can be any BASIC or DOS/ProDOS command. If your
text file contains commands like
10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD"
Applesoft will interpret this as a command (as the input of a new line).
This might be a nice way if your program is finished and error-proof,
but if thecode contains some errors, it may get hard to find them.
Good luck!
