I can report that the "E" does not have this problem.  It does extend 
downward, but it has a notch where the second 8-bit slot follows the first.
Thus, the 16-bit slot works fine.

But where can I get the software and manual?  The software for the non-E
does not seem to work.  BTW, if anyone wants a new one of these, they are
up for auction on e-Bay.
