First, check the Q/A switch itself, using a multimeter or a continuity
checker. It should close when the key is pressed. 

Second, check the pcb tracks to and from the switch. There may be small
cracks in the copper (especially when the kids jumped on the
keyboard...)

The Q switch can be removed from the keyboard, disassembled and cleaned,
but you will need a lot of patience to do this. It is easier to get a
new switch from another //e or MAC plus keyboard.
