Rewriting the firmware will not change things, even if you have an
accelerator chip installed place of the 1 MHz 65C02. As I mentioned in
an earlier post, there are _no_ conventional changes you could perform
to make the Apple IIc work with the platinum Apple 3.5 drive.
The Apple IIc Plus is able to use the Apple 3.5 drive because there
is additional circuity and logic built-in on the motherboard to support
this (along with the equivalent of a 4 MHz ZipChip built-in too). Until
someone decides to redesign the IIc motherboard (which would be kind of
redundant, as the IIc Plus is that redesign) or build some complex and
non-trival adapter interface, the IIc is stuck with the UniDisk 3.5
drive.
