   If it doesn't note the rom version on poweron (the same screen with
"Apple IIgs" on it), it's the oldest, ROM 00. You'll need to upgrade
that before you can run any recent (1988 or so) GS software on it;
Apple essentially shipped buggy beta ROMs out the door. They used to
provide free upgrades to rom 01, but that's apparently stopped.

info@allelec.com) sells the ROM 01 upgrade chip.

   Composite monitors will work decently well unless you use the
80-column text mode-- that tends to be a bit blurry.
