Using Mac 20 meg HD on A2 drive port???

Some of the older Macintoshes have an external hard drive that connects
via the db-19 external drive port.  These units are for sale CHEAPLY on
the Mac marketplace network.

I've heard that these units wont work on Apple II, but WHY NOT?

Could a creative programmer write ROM code so that it could be used as an
external hard drive for IIc, similar to the Chinook external hard drive
for IIc?  The IIc upgrade ROM allows the IIc to use an 800K external
floppy, so could a ROM be created to allow use of the Mac 20 meg external
hard drive?  (Note: the db-19 hard drive is NOT scsi.)

Think of how many thousands of IIc users would love to use these external
hard drives!!!
