: In any case, Finder's .root and .data files do not explain the absence
: of the folder in the Standard File dialogs. My first suggestion would
: be that the "invisible" flag has been turned on somehow. This is
: bypassable in Finder by turning off the preference for hiding invisible
: files, but as you say, you can see Finder's droppings files, so you must
: have this preference turned off.
If the invisible flag has been turned on, then such a file or folder won't
show up in the StandardFile dialog. This may be changed via a PIF called
'SFVisible' distributed by Softdisk.
Another possibility is that the file in question is, in fact, still where
it should be, and is simply "hidden" behind another file or folder. To
accomplish this, you could first hide the icon by highlighting it and
selecting White from the Color menu, and then rehighlighting it and
Control-selecting White. The final step is simply to move another file
or folder on top of the name, thus obscuring the identification of that
file.
To undo this, or, at least, to make the file more visible, you could
either select "Clean Up" or you could hold down the Control key while
opening the folder which contains the file or folder in question.
When you're checking the folder for invisible files, are you opening
the folder first, and then unchecking "Hide invisible files" in the
Preferences? Sometimes, the Finder does not "realize" that the
options have been changed and not all invisible files are revealed.
To remedy this, close the folder and reopen it while the Preferences
option is unchecked.
