Apple 3.5" drive repair

Before I start tearing it apart myself, I thought I'd ask if anyone has any
tips on repairing a standard 3.5" drive as found on a stock GS. I found
the Apple Superdrive Repair information in one of the FAQs, but it seems to
imply that the Superdrive is different in design (and failure mechanisms)
than the stock 3.5" drive.
In particular, my drive started running the eject motor continuously (or so
it seems from the sound). Rebooting didn't help, so I've disconnected it
and my 5.25" drive from the system.
For reference, my setup is:
ROM 01 GS
4MB RAM-GS (I think that's the one)
RAMFast Rev. D
3.5" drive (not Superdrive)
5.25" drive
120M TMS Shadow
and I'm running 6.01.
Thanks for any tips. It sounds like a possible case for Altech.
Bill
