Try using a new ribbon. I have had this same problem and have found that the
 ribbon takes too much force to advance causing the carraige drive to slip.
 When that happens then the print head will is no longer where the printer
 thinks it is so it constantly slams against the left side and will not advance
 far enough to the right.
